Mike began the meeting at 6:29 pm.
Approval of the Agenda
The agenda was approved as circulated. The motion was made by Shelley, seconded by Celine and carried unanimously.
Approval of the School Council Minutes for May 20, 2008
The Minutes were approved as circulated. The motion was made by Celine, seconded by Terry and carried unanimously.
Old Business
Staples Offer: Laura will inquire about the Staples offer regarding recycling laser-jet printer cartridges and she will send the information to Council members via e-mail. **
Environmental Committee Volunteers: A plea for volunteers was put in the newsletter.
Cupcake day successor: Gayle is thinking about a successor to run this event when she steps down.
50th Anniversary: Since the school will actually celebrate its anniversary in 2009-10, we do not have a tentative date for this event yet. In the fall a committee will be initiated.
New Business
The first School Council meeting of the 2008-09 school year will be held on September 23rd.
Financial Report
Celine reported that as of June 10th, the total committed funds are $4802.06 and the total uncommitted funds are $8962.28. Incomes from the Direct Donation Campaign, cash and carry pizza sales and the bake sale have not been deposited yet. All items approved for expenditure at the October meeting have been purchased.
Principal’s Report
School Organization: Staffing organization is tentative at this point and class lists with teachers will be posted outside of the school during the last week of August.
Sleep-out: John’s sleep-out will take place this Thursday night. Hot chocolate will be served from 6:30-9:00 p.m.
New V.P.: The V.P. starting in September is Maria Maiato as Cathy is on maternity leave.
Muskoka Woods Trip: The trip went well and the students were well behaved.
Committee Reports
Communications
Laura will put an announcement on the website that Council appreciates the efforts of all of the teachers and is sponsoring a “teacher appreciation” lunch.
Fundraising
A notice regarding the need for volunteers was put in the newsletter and is on the Council website as well. A representative from this committee will need to sit on Council for next year.
Hospitality
The teacher appreciation lunch will take place on June 19th at 12:15 p.m. Cathy will be attending the lunch.
Environmental
Shelley reported that work is being done on the back and front gardens and some students are helping with this. Money from the budget will be spent on tools and top soil from a local garden company.
Kids Care
Freezie sales on the track and field days raised $850.00 for Ryan’s Well. This money will provide water to elementary schools in Africa.
Holiday Heritage
Vicki made a motion to recommend that next year’s Council consider approving a budget of $650.00 for this committee. Kim seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously.
Other
Homemade to Go! John reported that this lunch program has gone well and there have been no problems. Shelley made a motion to continue the Homemade to Go! lunch program with the understanding that no ordering could take place on Wednesdays (or on hot dog days). Vicki seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously.
