Principal’s Report

Mitten Tree/Toy Drive:  John reported that this initiative went very well and the generosity from families was amazing.  The Children’s Aid Society, which services all of GTA, was very thankful for the donations.

Electives:   Elective forms have been sent home.  The prices for the Snow Valley electives have increased slightly from last year due to bussing costs and helmet rentals are now included in the rental price.

Primary Play DayThis program will take place for two afternoons (indoors due to weather) and activities include dance, cooperative games, the computer lab, baking etc.  This is the second year this program has been run.

Family Ski Night:  The third Family Ski Night will take place this Friday.  The last ski night was very cold so attendance was down.

Oliver!:  Rehearsals for the play are going very well.  Tickets have been sold to other schools for the morning performances.  Tickets are still available for the evening performances for families and friends.  The school is hoping to fully recover costs with ticket sales.  The students have enjoyed working on the play and are enthusiastic.

Wireless project:  This project was started yesterday.  A wireless hub has been put in the ceiling and work/testing is being done in different areas of the school.

Other

Gayle asked if DPA (Daily Physical Activity) was still happening at school.  John said teachers are providing this program on their own schedule in their classrooms.  In the past, all students were doing DPA at the same time.

Larry discussed helping out others in another community in the world through fundraising.  He has a connection in Africa where he knows of children in need or the fundraising could involve a local community.   John suggested that this is a project that Council may look at for next year.

Heather asked that the names of the raffle basket winners (from the Gr. 8 fundraiser) be put in the newsletter.  John said he would be responsible for this.*
