Old Business

Spring Fundraiser:  (Handout given to Council)  Pat Morton reported that the spring fundraiser kick- off meeting will take place on April 1st.   Pledges will be accepted from April 1st-9th and a $42.00 donation will be encouraged (equivalent to a pledge of $1.00 per km).  The mini-marathon will take place for six weeks, from April 9th until May 29th.  A map was given to Council, showing target distances for each day.  Canada’s Wonderland is not going to be donating prizes as Pat had hoped, and therefore prizes are now needed.   Every student that raises the $42.00 minimum will be entered into the prize draw, which will take place once a week for 6 weeks.  Ribbons and a certificate will be given to every student that completes the marathon.  All students will participate in the final “Celebration Run” at the school.  Students participating will receive a race package which includes suggested routes in the neighbourhood.  The main costs of this event are ribbons and prizes.  Pat would like to have Wonderland passes as the weekly prizes as it would help motivate the students, and it ties in with the length of the marathon, as the distance from the school to Wonderland is 42 km.  The cost of the passes would be $200.00 (for six passes).  As another option, Council discussed having local businesses donate prizes. Volunteers would be needed to approach business to ask for donations.  John has a letter to give to local businesses when soliciting donations.  Maria will put information in the newsletter asking for prize donations and/or volunteers for this fundraiser. ** Approximately $300.00 would be needed for ribbons (at a cost of 55 cents each, estimating that half of the students participate.)  Pat may be able to get donations for refreshments.   Kim made a motion to approve spending $500.00 for the spring fundraiser.  Terry seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously.   Pat is looking for a parent(s) to talk to the students at the assembly on April 1st about their personal marathon experiences.  John will contact the Bender family about speaking at the assembly. ** In a memo to parents, Pat will let explain how the Council has spent fundraising money in the past and what the money may be used for in the future.  John will help Pat write the memo. **

New Business

There was no new business to report.

Financial Report  (Report given to Council)

Sheila reported that the bank balance is $47,768.98. The committed funds total $34,960,41 which leaves $12,808.57 available to spend.

Principal’s Report

Technology:  Regency is now the second elementary school in the Board to be wireless. The school has not had to pay for wireless technology so far as this initiative is part of a Board pilot project.  The school is also piloting an access program so students can link their home computer with the school’s mainframe.  This enables students to work on assignments at home and save the information so it is available on the school computers.  Our school now has more technology that any other school in the Board.

Oliver!:  The school play went very well and the school may be able to take advantage of grants to offset the cost of the production. Alan made a motion to have a letter written on behalf of Council, thanking the teachers involved in helping with the Oliver! Production.  Shelley seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously.  Laura will draft the letter and John will give final approval. **

Air Band :  Air Band will take place once again this year due to teacher volunteers.  Grade 7 and 8 students will participate in this event.  Rehearsals will take place over a three week period.   Laura will write a thank you note for the February newsletter on behalf of Council to all of the teachers involved in volunteering at the school. **

Other

Alan will speak to Becky Knowles about putting together a small video to be shown on the school website showcasing where the fundraising money has been spent. **  Alan thanked Council, on behalf of the teachers, for supporting the students and teachers at Regency.
